Also referred to as simply a starter, a starter motor is an electric motor responsible for stimulating an internal-combustion engine than can then be run by self-generated power. The gear aligns with another gear, which then turns flywheel (or device that stores rotational energy), and then starts the engine. The same mechanism is then disengaged as it pulls away from the first gear and then, the starter motor stops. So, very quickly, you’re up and running!
